Cool heads required to reposition Eskom to financial sustainability


First and foremost, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is very much aware of the current economic climate in the country and is very committed to building a sustainable and resilient Eskom as South Africa’s electricity supplier.

OUTA is sensitive to and aware of the unemployment situation, but this should not be used as an excuse to have bulky overstaffed institutions that drain the economy. This overstaffing in Eskom, particularly in its senior and executive levels, has a knock-on effect on the value chain.

"OUTA maintains that Eskom needs to cut at the top and make tough decisions to halve its senior and executive staff. Our recommendation to retrench staff is not aimed at union members, rather at the overpaid managers," says Ronald Chauke, OUTA's Energy Portfolio Manager.

OUTA's comments are in its submission and presentation to NERSA on Eskom's RCA applications.
