Lotto numbers not quite adding up
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has written to the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) requesting further clarity following a press statement they published during a Carte Blanche exposé on alleged corruption within the state institution.
“OUTA is concerned that the National Lotteries Commission’s proactive funding system has been abused and that tens of millions of rands may have been squandered”, said Dominique Msibi OUTA’s Portfolio Manager on Special Projects.
The Carte Blanche episode raised allegations of conflict of interest. OUTA is of the view that the NLC should have exercised oversight in the implementation of the funding agreement through the required reporting, exercised due diligence in ensuring compliance with legal requirements such as - licences and compliance with funding conditions.
OUTA find it questionable that a grant for drug rehabilitation services was awarded to Denzhe, while it appears from its Constitution and registration with Department of Social Development, as an organisation dealing with HIV/Aids Treatment and Prevention.
Considering these revelations, OUTA has written to the NLC questioning the facts on their media statement dated 14 April 2019, as on Twitter.
