NSFAS: WE STAND BY OUR REPORT ON THE LEAKED RECORDINGS
OUTA stands by its report on the leaked National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) recordings despite a contradictory report issued after the NSFAS board ordered an investigation into the recordings. The recordings have been authenticated by the report, but there are disputes over the content of the conversations and the behaviour of former NSFAS chair Ernest Khosa.
In January this year, OUTA exposed the leaked NSFAS voice recordings in which allegations of corruption were made against the Minister of Higher Education, Dr Blade Nzimande, and the former NSFAS chairperson, Ernest Khosa. Our exposé resulted in Khosa’s suspension as board chairperson, and an independent, board-ordered investigation into the allegations. This report, compiled by Adv William Mokhare on behalf of Tshisevhe (TGR) Attorneys, authenticated the recordings, but there are disputes between Mokhare and TGR over the content of the conversations as well as the conduct of Khosa, who has since resigned.
OUTA stands by its report, and we want to assure our supporters that the bribery and kickback allegations are under investigation by the authorities. We will continue to keep an eye on developments at NSFAS, which has since been put under administration after the board was dissolved.
