SUPPORTERS ‘LIKE’ OUTA’S CALL ON GUMEDE
Last month, we came out strongly against the ANC’s redeployment of former eThekweni Mayor Zandile Gumede to the KZN Legislature. Based on the huge reaction we received on social media, it is clear that our Supporters and many other South Africans agree – her appointment could not be tolerated. Thankfully, the ANC has now asked her to step aside.
Gumede was arrested in May last year on charges of corruption relating to a R430-million Durban Solid Waste scandal. She was removed as mayor for poor performance, although she remained in the council as a proportional representation councillor. In August, after an outcry from opposition parties and civil society, the ANC in KZN came out with a statement asking Gumede to step aside from her organisational responsibilities and not stand for election.
