HANDS OFF OUR CCTV – JOBURG NEEDS TO POLICE ITSELF

 

This month, OUTA filed court papers to challenge the City of Johannesburg’s attempt to take control of privately owned CCTV cameras. While framed as a crime-fighting tool, this bylaw is a serious violation of privacy rights, and a slippery slope toward surveillance overreach.

The city should be focused on fixing policing and urban safety, not grabbing footage from private residents and security firms. We’re taking a stand in court - and we’ll fight this all the way.
