While Eskom’s decision to extend the PAJA consultation process has bought Johannesburg some time, the underlying crisis remains unresolved.

The City still faces serious financial and governance challenges, and residents remain caught in the middle.

We have consistently argued that debt recovery must target the institutions responsible, not the households and businesses that continue paying their electricity bills.

The extension delays the immediate threat, but it does not remove it.

Until transparency, accountability and sustainable solutions emerge, Johannesburg residents remain at risk of paying the price for failures they did not create.
