OUTA TAKES HELEN BOTES TO COURT
OUTA has launched legal action to declare Helen Botes a delinquent director based on her conduct while leading the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC). As CEO, she allegedly ignored repeated warnings about dangerous hijacked buildings, including the one that burned down in the Usindiso fire, killing 77 people.
She also presided over irregular and excessive COVID-era procurement, including questionable leases and spending that failed to follow proper procedure. These aren’t just governance failures. They had deadly and costly consequences.
OUTA believes she is unfit to serve as a director, and the court should bar her from holding that role again.
This is why OUTA acts. Because accountability can’t be optional.
