Earlier this year, OUTA wrote to the Minister of Transport, calling for urgent action on the growing licence card backlog and recommending that the five-year renewal period be extended.
The good news? She’s acknowledged our concerns and confirmed that the department is now considering the proposal. This is a step in the right direction - but the real test will be whether action follows.
In the meantime, thousands of motorists remain stuck in a system that punishes them for government’s delays. Temporary fixes are not enough. South Africa needs a smarter, more reliable licensing system.
