Eskom has finally eased registration and compliance requirements for small-scale solar and battery systems.

From 1 October 2025, qualified and accredited electricians can now sign off residential installations under existing safety frameworks - cutting costs and delays for homeowners.

OUTA along with other civil society organisations’ have engaged Eskom for months on this issue, advocating for simpler, safer, and more affordable renewable energy rules.

These changes mark a shift toward a more mature, collaborative approach by Eskom - and OUTA will keep pushing for clarity and fairness as South Africa moves toward energy independence.
