Show us the toll money… and then SANRAL got cold feet

One would think SANRAL learnt from the e-tolls saga not to try and hide financial information from OUTA.

Two years ago, we lodged a PAIA request for access to information against SANRAL to determine what has been happening to the profits made by three toll concessionaires. Bakwena, Trans African Concessions (TRAC) and the N3 Toll Concession (Pty) Ltd (N3TC) operate toll concessions on the N1, N3 and N4 national routes. While we are not opposed to public-private-partnerships (PPP’s) like this, we want to ensure that private concessionaires are not collecting excessive amounts of revenue in toll fees at SANRAL’s and taxpayers’ expense.

On 5 May our application was to be heard in the Pretoria High Court unopposed. But here’s what happened instead. Read here. A timeline and everything else on this project can be found here.
