BILLIONS AT STAKE: OUTA DEMANDS ETHICAL LEADERSHIP AT THE SETAs

 

The Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) are meant to drive skills development in South Africa - yet too often, they’re driven by political loyalty instead of competence. With more than R20 billion in funding on the table each year, these boards hold massive influence. But when board seats become rewards for connected insiders, the outcomes are predictable: ghost learners, inflated contracts, and a youth still waiting for real opportunities.

OUTA raised the alarm over a recent list of questionable board nominations. Many had no relevant track record, just the right political ties. That list was scrapped. Now a new process is underway, and we’re actively nominating professionals with the skills and integrity this sector urgently needs.


Because if we want real skills, real jobs, and real transformation, the people running SETAs need to be as serious as the money they manage.
